Hello and welcome! I’m Kathy, Registered Dietitian, marathoner, hiker, and avid dog lover (I don’t currently have any, so offers to come play with your dogs are welcome). I also love food…so much so that, after a long career in corporate America, I decided to go back to school to study food and nutrition.
Actually, to tell the truth, my decision to make nutrition a career was a bit more complex and was a long time in the making.
I spent many years working long hours and maintaining an active social life. I was eating out at least 4-5 nights a week, not sleeping well and not taking care of myself. I began running to get some exercise, then one day a friend talked me into training for a half marathon with her.
After my first half marathon, I was hooked. Over the next few years, I ran multiple half marathons, and then I got the urge to try my hand at running a full marathon. I thought I was doing pretty well with my nutrition for half marathons, but training for the full marathon was a whole different ballgame!
I had always had a “sensitive stomach”, but it became much worse as I tackled longer distances. After being diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), I began researching how to manage my symptoms with diet. I took a deep dive into the online rabbit hole of nutrition information, and it was not pretty! The amount of conflicting nutrition advice and “facts” really drove my desire to learn the truth and help others sort through it all.
So, now I am helping other busy active women find what works for you.
I don’t believe that there is any one right way to eat, and I don’t believe in restrictive diets. So many individual factors influence the ideal diet for you, including preferences, culture, health conditions, work and life stressors, fitness level and goals, family influences, etc.
Whether you’re looking for a fueling plan to optimize performance for your next race or simply trying to maintain energy and focus to get you through juggling work, life, and exercise, you’ve come to the right place! Eating well should be enjoyable and it shouldn’t be confusing or stressful. I’ve been in your shoes and found what works for me, and I’ve helped many clients find balance as well.
Follow along on the blog for nutrition information, tips, and recipes. If you have questions, topics you’d like to learn more about, or if you’re interested in working with me, please send me a message. I look forward to getting to know you and hopefully helping to make your life a little bit easier!
